DiRT Showdown may be lacking the realism of previous games in the DiRT series, but it offers stunning graphics, intense action and good ol' demolition derby events.
The extreme fluctuations in game performance are at times baffling. The Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 Ti OC is 20 per cent faster than an overclocked Radeon HD 7870 in Crysis 2, yet it's almost 30 per cent slower in DiRT Showdown.
It's difficult to determine whether or not this is down to driver issues, poorly-coded software or the hardware itself, but whatever the case, it shows how incongruous PC gaming can be.
Imagine buying DiRT Showdown on the PlayStation 3, only to find that it runs 30 per cent faster on the Xbox 360. Seems an unthinkable scenario, but that's the sort of problem PC gamers are faced with.
