Benchmark: LuxMark 2.0
LuxMark is an open-source, cross-platform GPU computing benchmark. Based on LuxRender, a freeware rendering program, this GPGPU benchmark tests each graphics card's ability to construct a complex scene using OpenCL.
The performance available from GeForce and Radeon graphics cards can vary wildly between games, and the same is true in other computing scenarios. We've added the increasingly-popular LuxMark benchmark to our suite to compare the GPGPU capabilities of each graphics card, and the Radeons are clear winners in this regard.
This particular victory may not hold a lot of significance today - GPU acceleration is still far from prevalent - but the GCN architecture is clearly up to the task and the performance bodes well for hardware-accelerated operating systems such as Microsoft's upcoming Windows 8.
