Overclocking
Overclocking on both cards was undertaken using a third-party application from ATI. From the default 500MHz/1000MHz, both cards overclocked well, and as both are based on reference designs, it was no surprise that they overclocked to similar levels.We managed to raise the ASUS EAX1800XL 256MB's frequencies to 590MHz core and 1180MHz memory, whilst the HIS Excalibur was stable at a touch higher on both counts, 600MHz core and 1210MHz memory. Far Cry and DOOM 3 were re-run at 1600x1200 4x AA 8/16x AF.
Almost 20% extra performance from the duo, and matching a pre-overclocked XFX GeForce 7800 GT in DOOM 3.
