Card Performance

Finally we move onto the benchmarking section of the review. Here I will demonstrate the card running through a range of benchmarks that will demonstrate the cards performance in as many aspects as possible. I will use the usual range of Hexus.net benchmarks as well as an extra from a more modern 3D Engine that should bench the card to its max. Aquamark, Quake3 and 3DMark2001SE. In addition to these I will also show benchmarks from CodeCreatures Benchmark Pro.

All benchmarks will be performed 3 times and the average taken. If any mark is wildly different from the rest it will disregarded and another bench taken. The benchmarking rig today will be the following specification:

  • Intel P4 2.2ghz - Northwood A
  • ABit TH7-II - Non Raid
  • 256mb Samsung Rimms (2x 128mb)
  • IBM 750GXP 45gb ATA100 HDD
  • Antec 400w PSU
  • Microsoft Office Keyboard
  • Microsoft Optical Explorer V3 Mouse
  • LG 19" Flatron 915FT Plus
  • Fresh Installation of Windows XP Pro

The cards the Gainward GeForce 4 Ti4200 Golden Sample Ultra / 650 will be compared against are the Asus GeForce3 Deluxe (overclocked to Ti500 speeds). Along with the bigger badder older brother, the Gainward Golden Sample Ti4600.

The Driver version used for all tests will be the Detonators 29.60, the computer will be rebooted between each test. The only changes made to the default driver settings will be setting the v-sync to off and LOD bias to 0. Desktop resolution will be set to 1024x768x32 for all benchmarks and the monitor refresh rate set to a eye melting 60hz. Any additional settings will be mentioned individually for each benchmark.
