Overclocking
OverclockingThe XFX GeForce 6800 Ultra 512MB's clocked in at 430MHz core and 1050MHz RAM. Overclocking both frequencies proved to be quite fruitful. Running 3DMark05 as a basic stability test and raising frequencies until artifacts set in, a final, overclocked speed of 445MHz core and 1210MHz RAM was reached with excellent stability. We wonder why, with RAM overclocking proving to be reasonably impressive, NVIDIA chose to run with default memory speed at only 1050MHz. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and DOOM 3 were re-run at 1600x1200 4x AA 8x AF, to see what kind of performance improvements faster core and memory frequencies had on default gaming results.

The performance improvement in Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory is not quite enough to overhaul a stock-clocked Radeon X850 XT PE.

The XFX 512MB card is running at faster clocks than a GeForce 7800 GTX (430/1200), yet there's not enough rendering muscle to outshine NVIDIA's latest and greatest.
