Overclocking tests

Overclocking tests were carried out by running through the Far Cry test without a single artifact. No extra cooling was directed at the card and it was housed in a regular Cooler Master WaveMaster case. Remember, the default clocks were 500MHz core and 900MHz memory.

The final, overclocked speeds were surprisingly good. The core was error-free at almost 580MHz and RAM scaled to 1060MHz. That's a 16% percent rise on default core speed and almost 18% more memory bandwidth.

DOOM 3, Far Cry and Half-Life 2 were re-run at 1280x1024 4x AA/8x AF with the overclocked PNY card.

The colours to bear in mind are orange and green; they represent the default and overclocked PNY's results. A nice boost in frame-rates but the 6800's 256-bit memory bus is perfectly suited to DOOM 3.

The overclocked PNY sneaks in ahead of the 256MB-equipped RADEON X700 PRO in Far Cry.

Half-Life 2 runs better on equivalent ATI hardware. A 256MB framebuffer also pays some dividends.
