FSAA. Full Screen Anti Aliasing
FSAA has been around now for a while but is becoming more talked about everyday now. I dont want to go into this in much detail, otherwise this review could quadruple in size..and I'm not joking.Basically FSAA was designed to increase the Graphical quality we experience, Mainly removing jaggy lines/curves etc. Its does this by sampling the screen at a much higher resolution then sizing it back down to the desired resolution, the affects aren't that visable, especially at higher resolutions, but boy does it have an affect on performance or what!!!
I only tested a few resolutions as I soon realised the FPS were getting to a point were they were unplayable.
At 1024x768 16 bit with FSAA on in Q3 the Fps dropped from 113.1 to 65.0 which is about a 40% drop.In 32bit this dropped from 87.1 to 34.1 which is more than a 50% drop in performance.
At 1280x768 16bit with FSAA on in Q3 the Fps dropped from 89.1 to 36.9 and in 32bit from 50.1 to 20.0 which is totally unplayable in my books, unless you like the feel of a First Generation 3dfx card on a Cyrix 100Cpu.
