Benchmarks: Overclocking

The A10-7850K can be overclocked by using a combination of three methods. Most motherboards support overclocking of the CPU, GPU and RAM, with additional voltage applied to each. Our research has shown that the best real-world benefit is derived from a medium-level CPU overclock allied to maximum speeds for the GPU and RAM.

We settled on a maximum CPU speed of 4.2GHz, GPU running at 1,000MHz and memory at 2,400MHz (12-13-13-34-2T timings).

The first two benchmarks focus on CPU performance, and it's an area where the new Steamroller core can come unstuck; the Richland A10-6800K remains faster in PiFast and is very close in Cinebench.

The benefits of overclocking are more readily accessible when running GPU-intensive tasks. There's a 20 per cent uptick when overclocking the GPU and memory.
