We encode a 1080p clip (180MB) into a smaller 720p movie (25MB) suitable for smartphones. The Kaveri CPU architecture is slightly more potent than Richland here. The 65W chip therefore puts up a solid showing against the 100W part from last year. Intel's Core i3-4330 settles into a comfortable second place.

This test evaluates the OpenCL ability of the chips' CPU and GPU - we use the most-intensive 'Room' scene. The cheapest Kaveri chip thrashes the best Richland APU by 25 per cent, but what's remarkable is how Intel's Core i3 processor is able to beat the AMD competition.

Musemage uses the GPU to accelerate image editing and manipulation. Focussing on the GPU means the A8-7600 benchmarks at the same speed in 45W and 65W configurations. The A8-7600 is way, way quicker than an equivalent Richland APU and almost twice as fast as the Intel Core i3.
