WinRAR, Kribi, Raytracing
Kribi Bench is the benchmarking arm of an excellent software renderer from Adept Development. The benchmark can be downloaded from here and features models with up to 16.7 billion polygons. The test here is to render the in-built JetShadow model in realistic mode. Tight SSE implementation and Hyper-Threading support means that it's a natural partner to P4s, and less so to AMD's CPUs. The extra Level 3 cache makes a significant difference here, too.
The Realstorm Raytracing benchmark prefers AMD's processors, though. Even the 3.6GHz Extreme Edition is found wanting. Horses for courses, as always.
The popular archiving utility WinRAR 3.20 was used to archive 38 files ranging from 1kb to 50MB. The overclocked E.E does well, but it can't muster enough power to dethrone the Athlon 64 FX-51. It's been a mixed bag of results in the non-gaming benchmarks, just as we would expect. The Extreme Edition has proved noticeably faster in certain circumstances. Gaming should reinforce that view.
