Bandwidth, latency, single-threaded apps

The extra bandwidth of the LGA2011 processors isn't shown in AIDA. They use a quad-channel setup compared to the dual-channel on the Core i7 2700K.

The single-threaded test loves frequency and IPC. Intel's Sandy Bridge (E) has these in abundance. Ramping up to almost 4GHz in both compared cases, this benchmark is very much an Intel benefit.

The same is evident in iTunes encoding. Want a fast chip for sparsely-threaded work? Go for a Core i5 or Core i7.
