Core Tests I
Heavy CPU load is the bread and butter for Epyc processors. The keenest comparison remains between the dual Epyc 7763 (Milan) and dual Epyc 7742 (Rome) chips both housing 64 core and 128 threads apiece.
The performance gains are steady rather than spectacular, and let's not forget we're not comparing apples to apples for the Epyc processors; the 7763 operates with a 280W TDP whilst the last-generation 7742 runs at 225W. A more apt comparison would be against the also-280W 7H12.
But AMD doesn't want you comparing the latest generation against previous Epycs. Rather, the focus is on how they line up against the competition from Intel, which, remember, tops out at 28 cores and 56 threads in socketable form. In that case, if one removes cost from the equation, the fastest 2P Epyc solution is over twice as powerful as Intel's.
