Power Consumption

The multi-core HandBrake test doesn't use 100 per cent utilisation on processors with more than four cores. This is part of the reason why the Core i7-8700K is competitive here. Remember the manufacturing advancements and refinements we briefly touched upon on the first page? It seems as if Intel is able to do with six cores what it has previously done with four from a power perspective.

By the way, if you're interested, a single-fan Noctua NH-D15S cooler was able to keep the Core i7-8700K at an average under-load temperature of 59°C during testing.

Core i5-8400's 65W TDP plays even better here. We can also answer how the power efficiency and price actually factor into the overall equation on the following two pages.
