The Contenders

When I first heard of Hard Drive coolers I though to myself why should most people bother? Only people with the new 7200rpm drives and SCSI should, but as I had SCSI I knew the temperatures which they can hit, I decided to test out all of these coolers to see which was the best.

There are several reasons why someone would want a hard drive cooler Hard drives at 7200rpm and 10000rpm get VERY hot, as these tend to be SCSI and SCSI is only used properly in high end servers they should do all they can to keep them cool, especially at the reasonable price Hard drive coolers can cover-up some of the noise generated by faster Hard Drives. Cooling the Hard Drive can prolong its life span, and keep the main system temp down as there are no "oven zones" are created.

Here are the Coolers we are testing:-

Global Win IStorm, which is priced at $32.95 From Coolerguys.com
Ultimate Hard Drive Cooler, which is priced at $25.95 From Coolerguys.com
Ultra Thin HARD DRIVE Cooler, which is priced at $18.95 From Coolerguys.com
