System Noise

The ELC240 has proven to be a capable performer as far as temperatures are concerned, but noise can be an issue. Irrespective of whether we set the fans to Silent, Performance or Overclock, noise levels increased quickly with a demanding run of Prime95.

Having the fans in the roof of the Graphite 600T chassis clearly doesn't help, but whichever way you look at it, there are other coolers that remain quieter under load. Though, it's worth remembering that the ELC240 is relatively quiet when idle, and users should be able to keep noise levels in check with a third-party fan controller.
