The rest of the outside

The base of the Cosmos has a black plastic skin that holds two removable fan filters. One is at the back below the PSU bay. The other is at the front.

Initially, we were confused about the purpose of the front filter. We couldn't figure out why it was there since there is no fan at the front of the Cosmos. As it turns out, it's actually the exit vent for a fan in the base of the chassis, which we will come to later.

Each side panel has a sleek brushed-aluminium finish and carries an understated, screen-printed Cooler Master logo.

The sound-absorbing interiors of the panels start to give you a good idea of the thinking behind the Cosmos. Cooler Master went out of its way to emphasise to us that the case is not built to be an out-and-out thermal performer but, instead, to provide a balance between performance and low-noise.

The company really has gone to some length to keep down the noise, as you can see from the large amount of sound-absorbing material on panels. You can also clearly see the holes that are used by the simple and effect side-panel latch-system.
