AMD has released a new beta graphics driver just ahead of the DOOM Friday 13th launch. AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition 16.5.2 Beta is available for download from the usual source now. Accompanying the headlining DOOM support and optimisations, multi-GPU packing Battleborn players will be happy with the availability of a new AMD Crossfire profile for this game. Regular driver news readers will not be surprised that there is also a bunch of fixed issues with this 16.5.2 Beta release, yet a malignant lump of known issues remain unresolved.
This is AMD's second driver release of the month so far, the 16.5.1 driver was aligned with the Forza 6 driving game open beta launch. This 16.5.2 Beta is aligned with DOOM - but we don't have any specific details about what optimisations and benefits it brings along.
Elsewhere eleven issues have been fixed in this new driver release. Several of the issues addressed involve the functionality of the AMD Radeon Software Crimson Edition software itself rather than OS/games/apps that rely on the driver. However there are specific fixes for wrinkles in games such as Hitman, League of Legends and Star Wars: Battlefront.
As for known issues that remain, there's still a number of Crossfire problems in games such as The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Fallout 4. Another irksome problem on AMD's to-do list, but remaining, is the brightness flickering in Forza 6 when using Freesync technology. You can read the full list of fixed and known issues in the official release notes.
The new driver is compatible with Windows 7, 8.1 and 10 and you can grab it directly (.exe files) for your 32-bit or 64-bit system by clicking the links.
