Relevance of real time

The real-time search option is not yet a default, however, with users having to manually select it from the options panel by clicking on "new updates." The real time search feature also works on Android powered phones and Google also announced a new Google Trends beta, which included a "hot topic" section linked directly to real time query trends.

Herein, however, lies the problem of result relevancy, one Singhal says the firm is taking very seriously.

Google, he says, has come up with an algorithm which takes into account not just account query fluctuation, language modeling, quality of author, relevance probability, semantics, query registration, query hotness, query volume fluctuation, topicality and real time URL resolution, but plenty more besides.

All this because, says Singhal, relevant information "is the key to success."

"Realtime search becomes incredibly powerful because it shows you what you need when you need it," but said the "importance of relevance has gone through the roof" and had become "the critical factor."

Singhal also noted that whilst "incredibly proud" of what Google had built, the firm would never be satisfied, concluding "we want to deliver your information at the speed of light and we won't be satisfied until that is the only barrier between you and your information".
