AMD has just released its Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition 17.10.2 graphics driver software, or RSCRE 17.10.2 for short. The new driver package contains a considerable number of optimisations and support and a decent smattering of fixed issues for Radeon GPU users.
Starting with the games optimisations, RSCRE 17.10.2 added support and performance tweaks for Destiny 2 and Assassin's Creed Origins, like Nvidia’s latest driver, and adds Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus optimisations too.
The most impressive optimisations come with Destiny II which can be up to 50 per cent faster depending on screen res / GPU used. Assassin’s Creed Origins also yields worthwhile double digit framerate improvements over multiple configurations. AMD didn’t test any systems that yielded better than an 8 per cent performance benefit on the Vulkan-based Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus though it should run pretty optimally on AMD hardware as it is.
Elsewhere in this update AMD has added a GPU Workload toggle switch in ‘gaming’, ‘global settings’. This allows users to switch optimisations between graphics or compute workloads on select Radeon RX 500, Radeon RX 400, Radeon R9 390, Radeon R9 380, Radeon R9 290 and Radeon R9 285 GPUs. In a similar vein AMD has implemented support for compute workloads for up to 12x installed Radeon RX 400, Radeon RX 500 or Radeon RX Vega series graphics products on Windows 10 systems. Last but not least Windows 10 Fall Creators Update gets full official support in this latest driver.
The full list of fixed issues from AMD’s release notes is reproduced immediately below:
- Radeon Software may not appear in the uninstall options under "Apps and Features" on Windows operating systems after a Radeon Software upgrade.
- Minor corruption may appear in PLAYERUNKNOWN'S BATTLEGROUNDS in some game locations when using Ultra graphics settings in game.
- Radeon Wattman may fail to apply user adjusted voltage values on certain configurations.
- AMD XConnect Technology enabled system configurations may not be detected when plugged in or connected to a system after being previously unplugged during system sleep or hibernation.
- Hearts of Iron IV may experience a crash or system hang during some scenario gameplay.
- Radeon Settings gaming tab may not automatically populate games detected on the users system.
There remains an equally long list of known issues that need fixing – hopefully next time around. You can download the new AMD RSCRE 17.10.2 software via direct links provided about half way down the release notes page.
