Canonical – the company behind the leading open source OS, Ubuntu – today announces Extended Security Maintenance (ESM) for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

Ubuntu 12.04 was the first version to receive ESM, and has since provided over 120 updates, including fixes for more than 60 high and critical priority vulnerabilities.

Canonical is committed to maintaining the highest possible standard of security within every aspect of Ubuntu; not just its newest offering, but all previous software versions, too. As part of this, ESM for 14.04 will help IT and security teams better plan for ongoing update strategies – such as:

  • Extending the availability of critical and important security patches beyond the nominal End of Life date
  • Ensuring GDPR compliance across legacy deployments and reduce costs by limiting application updates
  • Supporting the efforts of developers worldwide, allowing them to plan application upgrades in a failsafe environment

ESM for Ubuntu 14.04 will be available on April 30, 2019. Please find a link to the full blog post here.
