If you are going to the Glastonbury Festival at the weekend you might be happy to know that there are going to be several free internet facilities operated by “official Glastonbury partner” EE and powered by EE 4G Wi-Fi hotspots.

4G Wi-Fi Tractor

Festival organiser Michael Eavis has had one of his New Holland tractors converted and branded as a truly mobile 4G Wi-Fi hotspot. It’s in the picture above with a very happy, relaxed, non-muddy Glasto camper. The vehicle will be driven around the festival site and provide free internet connectivity “to anyone up to 10 metres away”. Hopefully it will stop and pause from time to time or I can imagine it being followed by shuffling smartphone-zombie types along its journey.

“Our 4G tractor demonstrates the innovative approach we're taking to bring the fastest mobile internet speeds to the UK in a uniquely Glastonbury way and uses similar technology to our fleet of 4G cabs trialled earlier this year,” said EE brand director Spencer McHugh. He added “We hope festival goers enjoy logging on to the EE-pimped eco-tractor if they see it over the weekend”.

There are two big EE Wi-Fi tents too

Thankfully there’s not just a single tractor providing free Wi-Fi to the masses at Glastonbury. EE has plans for two tents which will offer free Wi-Fi and phone chargers for festival attendees. “We’ve also got two tents where you can come and charge your phone for free, get free 4GEE WiFi and have a bit of down time while you’re at it. They’re open 10am to 10pm Thursday to Sunday and you’ll find them on the map marked with an EE logo”.

EE also has made an official festival app which will be available for Android and iOS. “It’s the ultimate festival guide in your pocket. See the line-ups and get real-time festival updates. Create your personal festival schedule. Get interactive maps with navigation tools like pin dropping to help you get around.” It may be useful if a band’s on stage schedule changes, for example.

Glastonbury festival opens its gates on Wednesday. The main acts play from Friday to Sunday and this year and include Pyramid Stage headliners Arctic Monkeys, The Rolling Stones and Mumford & Sons respectively.

Typical, EE turn up for Glastonbury but was stuck with Vodaphone at Download the other weekend. I could've done with charging my phone too.
Oh thank god for this piece of vital development - now people won't die from the lack of 4G over a weekend in a field in Somerset… How do the rest of people in the country side survive without 4G I do not know…

A few years ago I went glasto and a fellow hexite also came……I must say I've never seen that particular individual so unhappy. The root cause of his unhappiness was no signal on his phone :p So some people do indeed “need” the service ;)
Phew, I see they weren't joking about 4G being “the next step on the internet superhighway” - now we've got the tractor clogging it up to prove it! :D

What next … a 4G caravanner? :wallbash:

No insult to the farmers of course who have a difficult and vital job…
phone at a festival…

Mine gets switched OFF for days out when at things like this and locked away so it doesn't get stolen or wet.
