The news
Sony Ericsson's latest 3G mobile phone, the Z610, due in the next month, is likely to sell as much on its looks as its features-set. The clamshell phone is available in three colour combinations - black and silver; pink and white; and blue and white - each carrying a mirror-finished front cover with built-in info display.
And it's this front cover over which the company waxes most lyrical. According to Eiji Shintani, art director of Sony Ericsson's Creative Design Centre,
The unique design of the
Z610 is inspired by nature. We have applied a mirror finish and used a
hidden display for the first time to achieve the feel of a calm ocean
surface. OLED technology has enabled us to build in a display that
doesn’t interrupt the seductive, reflective qualities on the
front of the phone. And given that Z610 is also a highly-specified
device, it appeals to the design conscious that need a phone for every
day use.
Also, apparently,
The magic of the Z610 is
revealed when a call comes in or the user receives an SMS or MMS. The
hidden external display illuminates, giving the effect that the
caller-ID information is floating on the face of the phone itself.
A full list of features is at the bottom of the page (Sony Ericsson's press release is on page two) but among things to note, on top of 3G capability, are a 2in/262K-colour TFD main screen said to "make video calling and accessing the Internet a pleasure"; a Memory Stick Micro slot; an integral 2 Megapixel camera; and the supplied Picture Blog application. This is said to allow the sharing of images via an online blogsite, with "just a few clicks".
