Everywhere I look, it seems people can't get enough of smartphone gaming. Travel anywhere these days and you're likely to see at least one person frantically bashing away at their mobile screen. Such trends are reflected in industry statistics, as reports suggest that sales on mobile devices will account for over 40 per cent of the entire gaming market by 2020.

It is a multi-billion-dollar business that developers are eager to tap into, but with thousands of games to choose from, finding the odd diamond in the rough is easier said than done. To help out all those who picked up a new phone over the holidays, this week's question asks: which smartphone games are worth playing?

Hearthstone :) Although it's really a PC game ported to mobile, it does work really well on mobiles and is imo the best out there. Perfectly fun free to play as well without any need to spend real money on it, although you are unlikely to get above rank 10 unless you have been playing for years as you will suffer from a lack of cards.

PUBG (or if you really must, fortnite) mobile can also be fun, although plagued by people using mouse/keyboard over USB so less fun than it used to be.

Most of the rest are setup to bleed you dry and frustrate you or just to waste time - I don't play games on my phone anymore aside from hearthstone (and even then I prefer to plan on my Surface)
Not sure if this counts but honestly, the best use of smartphones for gaming has got to be emulators, works far better with a controller paired up too.
TerraGenesis,
Auralux 2,
War Robots,
Plauge Inc,
Warhammer 40,000: FreeBlade
JigSpace,
Modern Combat 5
Piano Tiles 2

All games are on ios, really don't know about Android.

forgot to add, all games have in-app payments, but with the exception of Freeblade, they are all completely playable with no money spent.
phones are for making calls, not gaming
