Graphics, sound, conclusion

The Outfit appears distinctly last-gen in the graphics department. Take a look at Ghost Recon Advanced Warfigher, then switch to The Outfit and you’ll see the huge difference in graphics. The environments used throughout the game don’t add anything to the reality of a war environment, they’re rather cartoony in nature and, although they still look great, they lack the care and attention to detail that is seen in the likes of Ubisoft’s tactical shooter.

The character models are average, akin to those Action-man figures you used to have as a child. Generally the character animations are decent, with lip synchronisation probably being the highlight, however your character will often scuttle around like a crab on amphetamines, in a bid to dodge bullets.

The sound adds a certain level of intensity to the game, crank up the surround sound and you’ll probably get a knock on the door from the next-door neighbours asking you to turn the volume down! The explosions make a ferocious boom and the voice acting is excellent, Robin Patrick from Terminator 2, and Ron Pearlman from Hellboy lend their voices to some of the characters.

The Outfit is more frustrating than fun offline, but online it steps up a gear and is a worthwhile, enjoyable experience. There are three game modes online, deathmatch, destruction and strategic victory. Deathmatch is the standard every man for himself scenario, whereas destruction will see you attempting to destroy your opponent’s equipment and bunkers within a set time limit. Strategic victory needs a bit more thought; you’ll need to capture strategic objectives on the map. There’s a host of option to change the game’s variables, such as respawn points, initial command points available and resources.

As in single player, the environments are totally destructible, and online play also means that you won’t have to put up with the dodgy A.I witnessed in the campaign. It will still take a dozen shots to knock some of your enemies down, but get a group of friends in a room and it’s a tactical battle of wits, rather than the pure muscle that you’ll need in the campaign.

The Outfit is an average World War II shooter. The strategic aspects are well thought out and, without them, the game would be very repetitive. If you fancy some fast paced action you could do a lot worse than buying this game. If you’re after a life-like war experience choose Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter. There’s just something about The Outfit that reminds me of the intro to the 1980’s classic TV show, the A Team……………….

In 1939, a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped a maximum-security stockade to the Normandy underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire...the A…Outfit!

Pros
Fast and Furious
Destruction on Demand
Great Multiplayer

Cons
Poor A.I
Bad collision detection Poor vehicle control

Average World War II action, but a blast online
