Mario is very firmly back, and it's brilliant

You know it’s writing reviews for games such as Super Paper Mario that make my job dead easy. Quite simply, if you by one game for your Wii this year the Super Paper Mario should be it. There, that’s that review done.

Oh alright, I’ll write some more then and I’ll try my damndest not to be too ingratiating…

Super Paper Mario marks a return to the side-scrolling Mario games of the past where leaping about, solving the odd puzzle here and there and saving Princess Peach is usually the norm. However, rather than facing off against Bowser this time you face the evil Count Bleck who’s intent on bringing about the destruction of all worlds. Bowser, realising that no world to try and rule is a bad thing, teams up with Mario, Peach et al for some superb quality platform action.

But I wouldn’t be raving about Super Paper Mario if that were all there was to it. You see, Nintendo have gone and done it again with what has to be one the most innovative games this year. Sure, Super Paper Mario is a side-scrolling 2D game but with a press of the A button it becomes a 3D platformer… but better than that, Nintendo have used this 2D/3D flip to create a platform game with puzzles and enemies that span across the two dimensions…

Honestly, it’s brilliant.
