Tinkering around with the track editor is extremely addictive. You can choose from a number of pre-set backdrops, such as a desert or a snowy region, and then create every part of your track, every twist and turn, every jump, every speed boost and weapon pod placement. You could spend hours using the tool, perfecting your track for all to test out. This user-generated content is sure to keep ModNation Racers running and running for many months, nay years, to come.

On the tracks it's also good news. The karts perform impressively and it's a lot of fun drifting around corners and tactically using your boost ability, or choosing when to unleash power-ups on your opponents. Jostling for position on the track is also exciting. Not only is it a matter of perfecting race-lines and mastering the tracks, but it also relies on your timing and judgement as to when to let your power-ups go. For instance, if you bide your time and pick up three powers-ups without unleashing any then you'll gain three times the power that your first weapon would have had if you would have used it. It's an impressive addition to the genre that now gives you a real tactical gamble. Should you use your weapon immediately, or should you accumulate its power and unleash it at a later time? Due to the range of power-ups available ModNation Racers has all the chaos that you'd expect from a Kart racer, which makes it a lot of fun.
