Customisation options are endless

ModNation Racers is really all about the community and the customisation features. When you begin you get introduced to a hub, a small town that you can drive around. Here you can jump into career mode, or stop off at one of the many locations that look like shop fronts. It's as accessible or in-depth as you want it to be. You can jump straight in and have a look at current user creations and test out people's tracks. You can jump into the Creation Station and start from scratch building your avatar with an all-white SackBoy type character and an incredibly in-depth tool-set at your disposal (the LittleBigPlanet influence is clear.) It's easy to use, there are great tutorials and you have everything you need to create some intricate designs.

The same goes for pimping your Karts. You can randomise and let the A.I. magic up a kart for you, or you can start with a blank template and create your own vehicles. You can then share these designs with the community. If you take a drive around the community hub you'll see a podium with the top three Kart and Character designs. This part of ModNation Racers is about showing off your creativity and design skills for all to see. Customising Karts and characters is practically a side game on it's own that doesn't effect the gameplay in any way. What's going to be more appealing to those who simply want to just race against other people is the superb track editor.
