Enhanced defence
FIFA Street 2 offers varied gameplay through its multitude of moves. Some of the best players in the game have unique signature moves that you’ll be able to utilise to your advantage when the time is right. Whilst hardened football fans will find it hard to adapt to the fast, frantic pace, arcade lovers will revel in the thrills and spills on offer. Career mode will see you trying to enhance your reputation on the pitch by unlocking new skills through beating a number of challenges. These challenges can be as simple as scoring a couple of goals against another team, to achieving a certain score by showing off your tricks and ball juggling skills.
Although the career mode is extremely repetitive, I found myself wanting to play through more and more of the objectives in the hope that something great would happen. It didn’t, but it was enjoyable. It’s mindless fun; the controls are relatively easy to master, you can pull off some great tricks, and the addition of the trick-stick and gamebreaker moves mean you can win a game in such an ‘over the top’ way that it leaves you begging for more. After a short period you’ll be nutmegging one opponent, shimmying around another, then flicking the ball over another player’s head to rifle home a stunning goal, well at least some of the time. On most occasions you’ll do all of the above only for the goalkeeper to show the same flexibility as ‘Stretch Armstrong’ as he claws yet another shot away from the seemingly open net.
The defence difficulty on FIFA Street 2 has been enhanced from the original. You won’t be able to score the same type of goal over and over again; you’ll need to work around the goalmouth to create space for an opportunity. However, whilst approaching the goal, you will be able to leave your opponents flat on their back-sides with ease, time and time again. At times it feels rather too easy to lob the ball over a player’s head and get away with it for the umpteenth time, but stick it up to a harder level or play with a friend and it’s a different story all together.
