Introduction
I think that I ought to make my position clear on this one from the beginning so as not to mislead: I really, really, like this game. It’s not often that I’m seriously impressed by new helicopter simulations as the last ones I was seriously into were Razorworks’ masterpieces Enemy Engaged: Apache v Havoc & Comanche v Hokum which in my opinion were going to take a whole lot of beating … with a very big stick.
The medium sized stick comes in the form of Search & Rescue 4, the latest offering in Interactive Vision’s highly successful (or so they say) Search & Rescue series where helicopters have departed from their usual (apparently) role of blowing the bejeezers out of things and instead toys with the slightly ridiculous idea that they could, in fact, be used to help people by pulling them out of sticky situations, and not kill anyone at all - at least not intentionally – and bugger me if they haven’t just gone and made it fun. I don’t know exactly how popular the first games in the series were but I’ve played S&R 2, and the demo version of 3, and frankly, they could have been a lot better.
S&R 4 is a lot better.
