The big downer...

And that big fish that needs battering and dipping in hot oil?

The key action.

Now, maybe I’m just spoilt because I’ve always bought a decent quality keyboard. Perhaps it’s because I’ve tested Cherry based keyboards in the past. Maybe it’s just personal preference. But when a keyboard has an action this bad and it’s not on a laptop or sitting on top of a Victoria Sponge, you’ve got to worry.

Now I did bring this up in my review of the Warrior, the fact that the key press action is, shall we say, ‘soggy’. It wasn’t too much of an issue for that as the action was positive enough and after all, you were using a limited number of keys which you’d be pushing over and over again.

However, to have a whole damn keyboard with the same action is, to be honest, bloody horrible. Ok, so this could all be down to personal preference and perhaps you like keys that feel like they’re floating on freshly made waffles (with extra syrup), but I like a positive action on my keys and although you get that with the Timber Wolf it comes with the feel only attained by a good nine inches of glass fibre loft insulation under each key… either that or the keys are coated with Novocaine and temporarily numb my fingertips as I type.

The real problem, as anyone who types regularly on both a laptop and a normal keyboard will agree, is that you have to push that much harder to get a positive hit on the key. This leads to finger strain and even genuine numbness... as well as mssed lttrs as you tpe.

Is this too much of a price to pay for a decent gaming pad? The conclusion on the next page will tell you all…
