Wot no pockets?
I think it’s fair to say that I love sitting on my arse. I also love to play video games while sitting on my arse -- it’s probably what I do best. Having grown up in the 80’s owning and lazing around on one of those fairly cheap looking bean bags – the ones that constantly rip leaking polystyrene pellets all over the bedroom carpet - I’m familiar with the wonders that the beanbag can bring. In the world of the beanbag, things have changed a lot since those days. Beanbags have slowly regained their popularity thanks to new materials and improved production methods over the years which have now helped to make modern day products both comfortable and durable.With those new methods sadly comes an increased cost to the consumer. The new i-eX Gaming Chair retails at £99, a price that is apparently reflected in its overall quality and comfort. So, when Beanbagbazaar dropped us line telling us about its new product I jumped at the chance to review it to find out what, if anything, makes this beanbag worthy of its rather hefty price tag.
The box the beanbag arrived in only just fit through my front door - this is a big beast of a bean bag, apparently the biggest on the market. It’s 95cm tall, has an 85cm diameter base, with a base height of 30cm and weighs around 6kg, slightly heavier than a standard bag of sugar. For its size, it still feels quite lightweight to move and toss around, but due to its large base it does take up a fair bit of room, so you need to have the space available.
This is a no thrills, no spills bean bag. There are no pockets in the sides, no drink holders and no speakers in its headrest. This is quite plain and simply a pear-shaped, black beanbag with silver piping and the i-eX logo emblazoned in white across the front of its base (the picture you see below show lime green piping, the alternative beanbag to the one I had.) An odd thing to say about a chair perhaps, but it smells very nice, like when you walk past a bunch of handbags on a market stall or in a shop and you catch a whiff of (PVC) faux leather. It’s flame resistance, easy to wash over with a damp cloth and has a simple panel design with seams top stitched for reinforcement. Though I’ve only had the i-eX for a relatively short period of time it seems very durable and has obviously been crafted and stitched very well.
