BUTTONS
Scattered around the M2 are no fewer than eight buttons, all able to be recognised through the drivers and therefore configurable within games. I know, there’s nothing new in that, but let’s just go through the buttons, eh?
So other than the left, middle and right buttons on top, and the two more side buttons, where are the others? Well, there’s one hidden either side of the mouse wheel, so not only can you flick the wheel back and forth and push it in, you can also lean it over left and right for two more buttons.
The last button is something special as it hides one of the M2’s best features… switchable resolution. Yep, that’s right, this is a switchable-DPI mouse.
At the moment, Logitech has a mouse with 2000 DPI, which is pretty high, in fact the highest out there right…until now. The M2 boasts a DPI of 2400, and this isn’t just mousing one-upmanship, the incredibly high DPI not only gives a hugely accurate mouse, but also allows for quick tracking for minimum movement. The real boon is that the resolution setting is adjustable within any app or game you’re playing, just by hitting that magic button right up on top of the mouse.
Hit the magic button and you toggle through all the different DPI settings available through the M2’s drivers. You can go from 400 DPI right through to 2400 DPI with just a few clicks. Unlike Logitech’s switchable mouse you don’t toggle up or down the DPI, you just click on through until you hit top resolution, then you click back to 400. This can be a pain if you like playing at 1200, then hit 2000 for one bit and then want to get back to 1600 as you’ll have to click through all the other resolutions to get back to 1600… In the heat of battle, it's all too easy to go past the res you want, or even worse, get tied up in trying to find a favourable res from the one you left - not what you need in a gun battle.
