Sticking two fingers up to the family-friendly Wii audience
‘Light-heated brutality’, now there’s an oxymoron if ever we’ve heard one. That’s the phrase Sega has used to describe its new ultra violent action game, MadWorld, a title that is set to cause quite a stir amongst the critics for its blood-soaked gameplay and mature theme.Inspired by the Sin City series of comics, MadWorld takes a graphic-novel approach to over-the-top violence, where the black and white stylized graphics are in stark contrast to the lurid red colour of blood as it splashes and splatters across the screen.
“To give MadWorld the graphical edge to match its brutal theme, we tried removing all color from the world except for blood,” says Sega.
Judging by the trailer, the plan has been extremely effective.
Controlling the chainsaw-wielding Jack, MadWorld will see us fighting for our life in Varrigan City where a group of terrorists have taken over and created their own deadly game show’, in which the citizens are the prey.
To remain alive and in order to solve the mystery behind the brutal game, Death Watch, we must master the use of weapons and items found within the environment and compete in ultra violent mini-games designed to push us over the edge.
A look at the trailer below shows how we’ll be able to pull off all kinds of deadly maneovres using the sheer brute force of Jack. Amongst the more grisly finishing moves, we'll be able to slice opponents in two with the chainsaw, impale enemies on various sharp objects, throw them into oncoming trains and pound their heads with huge barrels.
Despite the violence, Sega say that it has taken a comical approach to the fighting, but has also looked outside of the conventional box to provide an exhilarating experience for gamers.
Just check out the screams…awesome!
