They’re all out to get me!

Games Convention 2007 Ok, so I’m not going to go into all the back story on The Bourne Conspiracy as the film has been on enough times for you to have seen it as least twice. For me, The Bourne Conspiracy has a gritty realism that you rarely find in films of this ilk. James Bond uses a laser watch to defeat his enemy… Jason Bourne just rams a Bic biro into the back of someone’s hand… you get the idea.

So the challenge for High Moon Studios in developing The Bourne Conspiracy game for the Xbox 360 and PS3, has been to stay true to the books and films and not get carried away by the worlds of possibilities in a computer game. On top of this, they had to capture the way Matt Damon’s character moved in the films, with an efficiency of motion and constant sense of purpose.

Watching the play-through I reckon they’ve done a damn fine job on both counts, even though they weren’t able to use Matt Damon’s likeness or voice for the game, (Damon has publicly announced that he’s done his last Bourne film). But all the mannerisms of Jason Bourne are here, from the way he walks through to the very, very good fights and gun sequences, all with that under-riding theme of Bourne not wishing to kill, just to get away or complete his objective… but don’t think the game has gone soft… it’s still as brutal to play as the film’s fights are to watch.

The game itself starts shortly before Bourne in found floating in the sea (which is where the film kicks off) and we get to see two sides of Jason Bourne… the pre-amnesia $30 million dollar weapon and then the Bourne we know from the films as he evades the authorities and tries to find out who he is.
