Due to the growing popularity of Ultimate Fighting, the sport where two blokes enter into a cage and beat the living daylights out of each other, videogames publisher THQ has snapped up the rights to develop a game based on the discipline.

Ultimate Fighting Championship 2009 is currently in development for Xbox 360 and PS3 and will feature a range of martial arts disciplines and an extensive roster of 80 martial arts fighters from around the world.

THQ will be attempting to recreate the feel and the intensity of a UFC live event with a new fighting system that will demonstrate various martial arts disciplines such as Muay Thai, Kickboxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.

Career mode will begin with the Create-A-Fighter system allowing you to customise your fighter and they'll also be fighter attributes and skills which you'll be able to improve through training.

They'll also be commentators from the world of UFC, announcers, referees, trainers and the popular Octagon girls strutting their stuff.

Check out the trailer that was release at E3 last year:

cannot wait for this, although they might struggle to incorporate the free flowing nature of the ground game and its transitions. But if they get it right i wont be playing anything else for a good year or so :D

yeh this game is going to either be a success or a failure, i think UFC is the best sport as somthing actually happens instead of people faking a foul and then shouting at a ref and then kicking a ball for 30million :P. Been watching this and it looked pretty good, shame i sold my 360 :P but perhaps microsoft will port it xD.
MMA > Boxing (don't tell Bazzlad) :p
I'm going to sound a sissy, but UFC scares me!

I've watched a few fights and it made me feel queasy:).

You will get used to it :p

You should watch the old Pride FC (in Japan), stomping the head was allowed
Its a pity UFC bought out Pride FC… Pride FC had better fights

UFC are trying to take over all of MMA, which is not good… they are trying to steal all the good fighters from other organisations but that is a different discussion.
