Slay monsters across London

Funcom, the creators of ‘Age of Conan’, ‘Anarchy Online’, ‘The Longest Journey’ and 'Dreamfall' has finally revealed some more details on their latest massively multiplayer online game, The Secret World.

PC Zone magazine, via CVG, has confirmed that the title has been inspired by the Japanese horror classic, The Ring and will be set in this world, although the developers state that“there is something out there, another world beyond our own”.

"We're putting a lot of effort into making huge, believable environments", product manager Erling Ellingson told the mag. "You will actually be exploring vast cities such as London and New York. This creates some really exciting opportunities for us as a developer, to actually set a massive online game in real-world cities."

He added, "As I said, the game takes place in what is close to our own present time, but [players] will be battling creatures of darkness across the world and throughout time!"

The finer details of the game are still to be confirmed, but the official site hosts the following teaser text:

For there really is a world within ours, a secret world, where magic exists, monsters roam and ancient forces are fighting for the dominance of earth. It is a world of legendary stories, ageless conflicts and powerful cabals. In this world, even modern cities hide secrets. In this world, players can take part in the greatest conspiracies of our age, and battle the forces of darkness across the world and throughout time.

Reading the synopsis, and being a big fan of the Ring trilogy, wtf has the game got to do with the film tbh. One is a horor about a girl with supernatural powers in Japan & the other

Exactly what I thought. I'm guessing that it may be more about the style of the game rather than the content. :O_o1:
Then you have F.E.A.R. no?

The premise of Ring is, you watch the video, the phone rings, spooky girl (more often than not) climbs out of TV & you die of fright.

The dev says The Ring ‘inspired’ him, not that it's going to be like ‘The Ring’. What exactly that means I have no idea.

Looking forward to seeing some screenies of this though
