Wii Sports

HEXUS.E3 Next up is the Wii Sports game, which is in fact a collection of games. In Baseball, pictured here, you can pitch and hit the ball by using the Wii remote. The remote is sensitive enough to pick up even the slightest movement, so you can do that pro looking twitchy bat stuff before taking a swing… which is what I did before missing practically every ball…

But, as this pic shows, I got into the swing of it and started belting balls all over the place… even sending two right out of the park! (Ed: You sure Nick? ;))Other titles in the Wii Sports pack are Golf, where you can either just sit on the sofa (like David did) and play from there, or stand and hold the Wii remote like a golf club and swing like Tiger Woods, like I did… In fact, many said the resemblance between my swing and his is uncanny, but they all laughed when I told them I taught him all he knows…

There’s also tennis where up to four players, each with a remote, can slug it out on a variety of courts. The remote has a rumble pack built in so you actually feel when you’ve hit the ball. As I said earlier, the motion detection is pretty sensitive and can even sense the orientation of the remote, not just it’s movement, so you can slice and chop the ball, or give it some major topspin too. My timing was a bit off in this one and I kept losing to David… however, Mr ‘competitive’ Ross was intent on winning whilst I just wanted to try out all the shots.

I did manage to send in a couple of sizzling cross-court forehands and my line drive back hand sent him reeling back up the court… Over head smashes, lobs and cuts are all possible too, whether you get up and play like you’re out on the court or just sit on your bum and waft the remote around in front of you. Classic stuff! There’s also an aeroplane game that sees you using the remote as a yolk (that’s a plane yolk, not an egg yolk) to fly around through a variety of checkpoints and the like. Sadly, by this time, we’re were having so much fun that we utterly forgot to take any pics, but trust me, it’s all good stuff.
