Sony Corporation is currently in a joint venture with the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson to make mobile phones and last week it launched its F305 gaming phone, which some analysts thought would sport elements of the Playstation branding or the PSP design.
According to Marketing Week though, an insider at the company has apparently said that the Japanese consumer electronics company would “never give its PlayStation branding” to the joint venture, describing the relationship between the two as “frosty’.
According to unnamed sources, Sony is working alone on its own PSP-style phone and insiders claim that a Christmas 2009 launch date could be on the cards.
Contrary to the rumour though, is the fact that Sony Ericsson had filed a patent for what is described as a portable mobile communications device that is 'set out to mimic the look and feel of the popular Sony Playstation Portable. Well, that's certainly not the F305.
Sony has yet to release an official comment on the rumour, but you can bet when it comes, it will be along the lines of 'no comment'.
