In last week's news we reported that Nintendo were rumoured to be planning a new design for the Nintendo DS.

Nintendo of Europe has spoken with gaming website, GamesIndustry.biz, and told them that there is no truth in the rumour.

According to a Lik-Sang source Nintendo planned to make a formal announcement of the re-design today. Nintendo commented, "Clearly, Nintendo DS continues to be one of the most popular and talked-about video game systems available. Through 2005, some 13 million units have sold worldwide. Nintendo is always looking for ways to improve its games and systems, but we have nothing to announce at this time."

It's argued that the Nintendo DS should be redesigned to compete further with the sexy looking PSP. The re-design could potentially open the handheld to a totally new type of gamer. Nintendo fans argue that the games are what make the console great and not the look. In a world where looks and style often overlook quality it's still suggested that Nintendo will re-design the DS at some point, just not today.
