See? Now that you see how it works it makes perfect sense, eh? But it’s not just the idea of standing there strumming a mini plastic guitar that makes Guitar Hero so appealing, it the songs too. You’ve got all the great guitar songs in here from Joan Jett’s I Love Rock and Roll with that cracking bassy hook to Boston’s wailing bridge in More Than A Feeling… or perhaps you reckon you’re as good as Brian May? If so have a crack at his guitar solo in Killer Queen or maybe go for something more modern with Franz Ferdinand’s Take Me Out?
Click for larger imageThere’s a massive number of tracks in Guitar Hero, certainly enough to keep the casual player entertained and even true guitar players will have a blast as the game doesn’t actually require any knowledge or guitar ability to play. If you’re thinking that it all sounds good but you just don’t have the dexterity for some of the trickier riffs, fear not as there’s a simple difficulty system built into the game. What Red Octane have done is to re-master all the tracks using ‘sound-a-like’ artists and even Gibson session musicians to re-record all the music. So on the easier levels all you have to do is hit one of three keys at the right time and you’ll still hear the more complicated riff… but take it up to the expert level and you’ll be expected to hit every note… a sure fire recipe for dislocated fingers.
Click for larger imageSince seeing Guitar Hero at CES 2006 and talking to John and Corey, we’ve now been told that the game will be released over here on April 7th for the superb price of £49.99, a bargain considering what you get for your money. We’ve been playing with the US version for a week or so now and we can confirm that the tennis racket has been relegated back to the cupboard… Air Guitar is dead, long live Guitar Hero!
