9. Antbuster Tower Defence



The first game in our list that sees the bad guys, ants as it happens, not following a set path but free-roaming across the playing area, trying to steal your cake. Unusually for a free-roamer like this, you can’t build a maze of turrets to force the ants along a set path but in true ant fashion they do meander around a fair bit, giving you a good chance of picking them off. This is one of the first games to have a complex, branching upgrade structure to your turrets and also features a ‘lock on’ mode where turrets will target a selected ant if it’s in range. Later upgrades are impressively destructive.
