Intel INTRODUCES telematics design center TO
accelerate
development of wireless computing solutions for cars
VDI KONGRESS CONFERENCE, BADEN-BADEN, Germany, Sept. 27, 2001 - Intel
Corporation introduced today a new program designed to help developers
successfully build products and services that deliver wireless voice and
data information to vehicles and other 'in-dash' automobile systems - a
category of computing products know as telematics.
The Intel Telematics Design Center provides web-based development and
technical support for designing navigation, multimedia, hands-free phone,
and other in-car Internet products and applications using Intel®
StrongARM* and forthcoming Intel® XScale(tm)-based processors. There is no
cost to developers using the Intel Telematics Design Center.
"The increasing consumer demand for driver safety and security,
voice-activated communications, location-based services and multimedia
entertainment has spurred significant interest by a number of
manufacturers and service providers," said Pat Kerrigan, director of
marketing for Intel's Telematics Operation. "The Intel Telematics Design
Center will provide these developers with the tools, information and
designs that can accelerate product development with less investment."
The Intel StrongARM SA-1110 processor is designed to benefit a wide
variety of telematics devices and applications. The Intel StrongARM
processor and upcoming processors based on the Intel XScale
microarchitecture have the flexibility to handle requirements for both
ultra-low power and high performance to efficiently perform
compute-intensive tasks such as speech recognition, text to speech, MP3
decode, route calculation, and map rendering.
Intel Telematics Design Center Features
Developers can immediately access the Intel Telematics Design Center at
www.intel.com/design/wireless/telematics/designcenter.
The Center
includes:
* hardware designs for full multimedia and hands-free phone kit based
on Intel StrongARM and future Intel XScale processors;
* technical library that features hardware design guides and software
development notes;
* tools for programming flash and debugging applications; and
* links to various third party tool vendor downloads that are focused
on operating systems and Java application development.
The Intel Telematics Design Center is a part of the Intel® Personal
Internet Client Architecture (Intel PCA) Developer Network announced in
August. The Intel PCA Developer Network offers wireless companies
development, technical and marketing support - including access to more
than 300 tools - for designing cell phones, personal digital assistants
(PDAs) and other mobile Internet devices and applications supporting Intel
PCA. Intel PCA is an open hardware and software architecture that
accelerates the development of wireless Internet devices and applications
Intel, the world's largest chip maker, is also a leading manufacturer of
computer, networking and communications products. Additional information
