Recession? What recession?

Iconic technology company Apple has unveiled a new range of desktop PCs that it claims are more affordable than ever before.

It remains to be seen whether they will be affordable enough, however, as it's widely assumed that, during a recession, premium products with premium prices are likely to experience the biggest falls in demand.

Cutting straight to the chase, here are the highlights:

  • 24-inch iMac - starting at $1,499
  • 20-inch iMac - starting at $1,199
  • Mac Mini - starting at $599

In case none of those are expensive enough for you, Apple has also launched a new Mac Pro, which uses Nehalem family Intel Xeon processors and comes in at a tantalising $2,499.

"The new Mac Pro is a significant upgrade and starts at $300 less than before," gushed Philip Schiller, Apple's senior VP of worldwide product marketing. He also said the Mac Mini is: "the world's most energy efficient desktop computer."
