What changed?

Samsung only announced its entry into the red-hot netbook market a couple of weeks ago and it's not due to go on sale until the end of this month. That hasn't stopped it pre-emptively dropping the price by over 20 percent.

The suggested selling price of the NC10 on 19th September was around £387, but now Samsung has dropped it to £299. Doing so in advance of the launch rather than after is actually quite sensible as it saves on the cost and hassle of rebates. However you have to wonder what Samsung discovered in the intervening 11 days to make it change its mind.

"We have taken the decision to release the Samsung netbook NC10 at an aggressive suggested price point of £299 when it goes on sale at the end of October 2008, said Dinesh Chand, Samsung Product Manager for Notebooks.

"This decision was made to reflect the current trend in the mobile computing market and our commitment to ensuring Samsung resellers are in the best position possible to supply customers with the highest-quality product possible at a competitive and attractive price."
