Ruiz’s pieces
Possibly emboldened by Dessau's unashamed gloat, former AMD head-honcho - and now chairman of Global Foundries, the chip manufacturer spun-off from AMD - Hector Ruiz decided to become a journalist for a day and write a piece for WSJ sister site Market Watch.
Headed: Intel and the blame game, the piece by Ruiz effectively accuses Intel of being in denial about what it has done. Referring to a "stunning four-page document", Ruiz says Intel is blaming anyone bar itself for the EC's findings.
Ruiz points out that Intel feels the EC was "predisposed to alter the results of competition" from the start, but says Intel doesn't offer any evidence of this. He says Intel is complaining that much evidence continues to be confidential, but claims that Intel itself has requested this be the case.
He dismisses an Intel ad hominem criticism of evidence from lower-level employees as "a typical monopolist defense," questions the likelihood of Intel being pushed around by large and powerful OEMs, and sidesteps the personally awkward Intel claim that AMD's failure to execute was a bigger factor in its inability to compete.
All in all, AMD seems to be having a lot of fun over this. However, it will be interesting to see what Dessau and Ruiz have to say if Intel wins its appeal and if Intel then decides to return the favour.
