The end?
The founder and director of The Symbian Foundation, Lee Williams, has quit in a seemingly last minute move that is sure to surprise many people.
He cited ‘personal reasons' for his swift exit, according to a statement. Meanwhile, the Foundation's board of directors has wasted no time in appointing Tim Holbrow, the now former CFO to take over from Williams immediately.
Symbian has been hard hit of late by the Nokia shake-up as many of its best supporters have either left or been ousted from the firm.
The axing of Nokia's old CEO, Pekka Kallasvuo last month was thought to be about the company's inability to compete with smartphone leader Apple and Google Android. Nokia's smartphone team leader will also leave the company soon, with the future of the firm's strategy in doubt.
Nokia has publicly stated that MeeGo will be its future high-end smartphone OS, with Symbian continuing to power more mid-market offerings.
Indeed rumours are even doing the rounds that The Symbian Foundation will be wound-up and the fact that Samsung and Sony Ericson have both ditched the ailing OS in recent times could certainly add weight to the rumour.
