Fizzbook
As you can imagine, giving a laptop to an eight year old kid is something not done lightly. Quite apart from the likelihood of it being dropped, lost or drenched with Coke, there's the small matter of ensuring it's used for what it's intended and the little darlings are protected from the less desirable aspects of being online.
That's where this great, big ecosystem comes in and one of the things Intel was most keen to bring attention to on its stand was all the clever software that comes preinstalled on the Classmate.
Intel likes to call it "Intel powered" as it essentially provides the reference design, with the preinstalled software, for OEMs, VARs, etc to then much about with and turn into a ‘solution', or something like that.
One such partner is CMS Computers, which was on the Intel stand showing off its Fizzbook range of classmate laptops, made under its Zoostorm brand. There are three of them, all of which run on the Atom N270 1.6GHz processor.
The "Lite" version has a 7 inch screen, 4GB Flash storage and 512GB of memory. The "Bang" version has 1GB memory, a 30GB HDD and an 8.9 inch screen, as well as a 0.3 megapixel webcam. The "Spin" is the model based on the convertible reference design. It has a 60GB HDD but only 512MB of memory. The screen is still 8.9 inches, but the webcam is now 1.3 megapixels and it rotates.
