Building blocks

Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) has been trying to standardise the components inside a notebook in the same way they already are for desktops. The programme is codenamed Rich Creek 2 and some early products from it were shown at Intel’s channel conference last April.

It was only to be expected, therefore, that the launch of Centrino 2 would also produce the sequel to Rich Creek 2 (surely Rich Creek 3? – Ed). That is exactly what we have in the form of the MGM45WU for business users and the MGM45RM for consumer use.

Tom Rampone, Intel’s sales and marketing VP and GM of its Channel Platforms Group, said: “Intel’s vision for the channel mobile is centered on building a mobile ecosystem based on common ingredients such as mobile motherboards. These two new Intel-branded mobile motherboards take us closer to helping system integrators and ultimately end-users build their own notebooks.”

MGM45WU

The business board has got all this stuff built into it: Intel Active Management Technology, Intel Trusted Platform Module, Intel Centrino with vPro technology, Intel Virtualization Technology (VT-x, VT-d), Intel Trusted Execution Technology, Intel Matrix Storage Technology, and support for Intel Turbo Memory 1.7.

It supports Intel Core2 Duo (45nm) or Intel Celeron Processors at 1066/800 MHz system bus. It has the latest Intel GM45 Express Chipset with ICH9M-Enhanced. It supports dual channel DDR2 800/667 MHz and there are 2 SO-DIMM sockets (4 GB max) for 256Mb, 512Mb, 1Gb and 2Gb densities. It also has 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.0 and Wimax connectivity.
