London, UK, 2 September 2008 – Buffalo Technology has launched the fastest internal Blu-ray drive available on the market, designed for tech-savvy consumers who want to upgrade a machine to read and write Blu-ray discs.

The Blu-ray Internal Drive [BR-816FBS] offers consumers Blu-ray write speeds of up to 8x; DVD write speeds of up to 16x; and CD write speeds of up to 48x. The 50GB dual layer Blu-ray DVDs that can be purchased for this device are capable of storing nine hours worth of high-definition (HD) video or 23 hours of SD video.

Paul Hudson, Northern European Sales Director at Buffalo Technology, comments: “Blu-ray drives are still in the development phase and we recognise the need to continue to push the boundaries to achieve faster write speeds and increased capacity. By being first to market with an 8x Blu-ray drive, Buffalo continues to assert its position as a technology innovator.”

CyberLink’s Software Suite will be bundled with the drive enabling users to play HD movies stored on Blu-ray, record HD video content to Blu-ray, as well as burn and backup data to Blu-ray. Regular DVDs can also be experienced in near high definition quality, as the drive utilises CyberLink’s upsampling “smart non-linear stretching feature” which enhances colours, lighting and effects.

The Blu-ray Internal Drive is available from late August, from Dabs.com and eBuyer at an estimated street price (inc VAT) of £199.99.
