Two Nottinghamshire businessmen who have created an expanding specialist I.T company have been named as joint winners of the first Institute of Directors (IoD) East Midlands Young Director of the Year Award.
They are Adam Harris, Managing Director of Bear IT and Technical Director Mark Lambert. The company has offices at Sherwood Park, near junction 27 of the M1 (www.bear-it.co.uk).
Adam (29), who lives in Nottingham and Mark (32) from Shipley near Ilkeston started the company four years ago. They were presented with their award , which included a trophy and a training module for the Chartered Institute of Directors course at Loughborough University, at the IoD East Midlands Business Leaders Dinner , Trent Bridge, Nottingham (18 September).
Roger Galbraith, Area Director of Lloyds TSB Commercial presented the awards, which they had sponsored. He spoke of the passion and heartfelt excitement about business which had come through from both the winners and two runners-up in the award. The runners up in the competition were: Mike Higgins(39), Director of Hydrock in Spratton, Northamptonshire, who lives in Kibworth, Leicestershire and Scott Snaith, Chairman and Managing Director of 50 Cycles. The company is based in Loughborough.
Aspiring and established directors were at the event, which was sponsored by Blackberry. They included the youngest- 15 year-old Emily Paris, a student at Worksop College, who lives near Southwell. She won regional acclaim for her role in Young Enterprise earlier this year as Managing Director of S.M.O.G. (Saving My Own Globe), a company which made products from recycled waste.
Former Dragon's Den and Red Letter Days entrepreneur Rachel Elnaugh was the guest speaker. Rachel, who has now relocated with her family to Bakewell, Derbyshire spoke about the highs and lows of business.
Peter Fothergill, IoD East Midlands Chairman and Ron Lynch, Regional Director, welcomed the almost 200 dinner guests from across the region. A raffle raised around £1,300 for Fun Days, the Nottinghamshire charity, providing fun, leisure and friendship for children and young adults with a range of severe learning and physical difficulties.
